Traffic got badly disrupted on account of road blockades by Telangana agitators in several parts of Hyderabad organized to intensify the agitation for a separate statehood. Several leaders as well as activists were arrested.
The general strike organized by the government employees has entered its 15th day and the leaders of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) as well as its other constituents such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) who blocked traffic as they sat agitating at several intersections.
The police no doubt found it very difficult to control the agitators as the protests were organized in about 100 places. There was much tension as the protesting leaders did not want to give in into the attempts of the police to arrest them.
The convenor M. Kondaram of JAC as well as his other supporters were arrested at Paradise, which happens to be a commercially important place in Secunderabad. TRS legislator K. Tarkarara Rama Rao was prevented at Mettuguda in Secunderabad. He alongwith his supporters lay on the road and resisted the attempts of the police to arrest them.
Bandraru Dattatreya, senior leader of BJP was prevented as activists of his party were arrested when they tried to block traffic in Abids, which is a busy area in Hyderabad.
At the Moazzam Jahi Market, which happens to be trading hub, the police arrested lawyers belonging to the Telangana region.
Earlier during the day TRS MLA was arrested near Hi-tech city where all the IT giants are located.
Much tension was there near the Secretariat as the agitators prevented other employees from working.
